Wanna see some amusing photos I took this weekend? Sure, go right here

my cute new horizontal rule.

Links improved and updated..

For news,

I tend to look at Ananova, the Associated Press website.
Obviously, the BBC is also excellent.
It's been pointed out to me that Yahoo is actually very fast. It's true, too...

For computer related issues, games and so forth there's a variety.

Bluesnews is an excellent PC orientated games newspage.
Evil Avatar can be good as well.
Gamesradar is not often updated, but does feature a reviews archive, as does the Gamespy network, although this is very US biased. If that's a problem, you could try Gamespot UK or perhaps Eurogamer.
For downloads of demos and things, you can try either the Adrenaline Vault or Fileplanet (needs registration). CNN also provides the excellent Download.com which has almost everything legal you could wish for ;-).
The Register is great for UK-biased technology news, whereas Wired is a more general US site.
Slashdot is useful for those of us with a more geeky demeanour.
How Stuff Works is an entertaining diversion.

If you want free email, I'd suggest Yahoo rather than Hotmail as it's faster. I use both though....
And while we all know Google is a great search engine, I've found the New York Times has a good summary of the other engines out there as well as a host of other sites. Useful when searching for the more esoteric items on the web (such as my recent quest for 'Industrial Scampi Deshelling' ;-).

People should remember that Google also provides a superb Image Search, as does Alta Vista.
If you have any interest in films, actors or whatever - the Internet Movie Database is invaluable.
For up-to-date film news (and reviews of US TV shows like Buffy), try Ain't It Cool.
Imagine my surprise to discover the BBC provides the Oxford Meerkat WebCam.

Finally, since so much of my childhood and subsequent career stems from this, I've added a Speccy Emulation page. Oh, the nostalgia ;-)

Humour on the net is immense, varied and delightful. Here's a selection.

The Onion Probably the best satirical website in the world...
Although SatireWire might give it a run for its money.
The Brunching Shuttlecocks Oh, how are the mighty fallen, but fun to browse the archive.
the fantabulous FARK all the junk you'll ever need... Categorised!
TV Go Home has been away for a bit but it's back now (after a rather poor TV experiment).
If you're planning on wasting an hour or fifteen, try playing a few of PopCap's exquisite little webgames. I particularly recommend Diamond Mine which has sucked hours of my time ;-)
Martin claims that The Surly Gibbon will be funny as well, but it's taking a little time ;-)
Finally, do visit the end of the internet or you could download it for reading later.

Website Design is a current interest...

Webmonkey's Tags Cheatsheet seems like an excellent quick reference.
1st Site Free also has plenty of hints & tips.
Greenspun on writing html

Okie dokie. First attempt at personal photos and pics and things...
Canoeing. I have been queried on why I appear to be getting out of the canoe. This was heroic (idiotic) on my part. Suffice to say, I was pushing us away from some rocks. The river was quite low and fast y'see...

A collection of older portfolio items. I'll probably have a fit of self consciousness and delete 'em soon.

Testing something for Martin. Hi Martin!
